π TIDE COMING IN
Clear Gulf water is flowing in through East Pass.
Crab Island tide: checkingβ¦
The line is todayβs predicted water level. The dot is right now.
Planning the weekend? High tide moves about an hour later each day.
Crab Island is a sandbar under the water on the north side of the Destin bridge, where Choctawhatchee Bay meets East Pass.
When the tide comes in, clear green Gulf water pushes through East Pass and over the sandbar. Thatβs the picture-perfect Crab Island.
On the way out, darker bay water drains back over the sandbar. Still fun, just not as clear.
Destin usually sees one high and one low a day, about a foot apart. A strong wind can move the water more than the tide does.
The water goes from ankle-deep to over your head fast near the channel, and the current there is strong. Anchor on the sandbar side and keep kids in life jackets.
Crab Island is only reachable by water. Every trip below stops there. Tip: pick a departure that overlaps high tide (top of the page) for the clearest water.
